Our story
Every dog we meet is somebody's whole world waiting to happen.
Chained Dogs MKE is the only nonprofit organization in Milwaukee, Wisconsin advocating for at-risk animals, especially in underserved areas of our community. These are the dogs kept chained or living outdoors constantly. We educate, empower, and support our community to bring outdoor tethered dogs off the chain and into their homes where they belong. Every one of us is an unpaid volunteer.

The wait
Right now, somewhere in Milwaukee, a dog is standing at the end of a chain watching a back door. He was there through the January windchill. He is there in the July sun. He knows the sound of the door better than he knows the feeling of a couch.
Nobody is coming to play. Dinner is not guaranteed. Waiting is his whole life.

The knock
That is where we come in. When a report comes to us, we go see for ourselves. We knock on doors and talk to owners face to face, with help instead of judgment. We drop off food, supplies, and welfare packets. We explain what a dog needs and keep coming back.
Most people love their dogs and are doing the best they know how. When someone shows up to help instead of shame, things change.

The ride home
Most wins happen right there in the yard: straw for winter, a sturdy dog house, a safer tie-out, a fuller bowl. And sometimes a family says yes to something better, and a dog takes his first car ride toward a life indoors.
Look at that face. That is what your support does.
